Ok now you have probably figured it out- Dusty was drunk, barefoot and he got one foot too close to that big burnin' log pig cooking fire (it was going a under ground always out from the visible fire area) and man did it ever burn the bejesus out of his one foot so the doctor ordered him to keep one foot in the cool waters of the creek and to stay drunk (for at least 48 hours) to alleviate pain.
