Mosquito Creek Used To Roc
By Louis Killius
Well now I read a few of these stories it reminds me (and a lengthy phone call last night from Don Olson didn't hurt) about some of the old gatherings up Mosquito Crick out there by Wilson Wyo. back in the 70's. One year I drove up to the "meadow" a couple of days before the fourth just to see if anything was shaking yet and yep Dusty Trails was there and Skippy was there sure enough here came Keith Maystoravich and the "Bus" and there were other luminaries there as well. Anyhow Dusty come walking over and says "Louis come see this" and we walk over to a little feeder creek flowing into the main creek, it's dammed up a bit and as I look up the little creek as far up as I can see all I can see is 6-packs of beer floating in the water getting cold and I say WOW! Dusty says yep! that's about 100 cases there to get started on. About that time Skippy and a bunch are wrestling a 250 lb pig onto a BIG burnin' log trying to cook it. Anyway a 4 day massive party was on and it went on from there. I do remember several high-lights of this event. Night 1 - we tried tying the pig up in a tree to cook it more the next day (it was very dark) and as skippy climbed up in the tree testing branches for strength they kept breaking but he finally found 1 strong enough and we hoisted it up what we believed was high enough we congratulated our drunken selves on what a fine job we had done and had a couple more beers and we all passed out till daylight. When we woke up next morning it turned out the pig's ass was about 2 feet off the ground and every dog in a 2 mile area was laying around the area bloated on HAM! boy were those dogs happy! Stay tuned for chapter 2 or how Dusty spent the next 2 days with 1 foot in Mosquito Creek, 1 foot on dry land and a fifth of Peppermint Schnapps in one hand!
